Delaware Immersion Program

Delaware is home to more than 30 language immersion programs which educate more than 4000 students in two languages.  World Language Immersion Programs provide a unique learning environment that allows students to learn academic content in both English and a second language.   Students benefit from the instruction of two highly-qualified classroom teachers.  One teaches them for half of the day in English, and another teaches them for the other for half of the day in the immersion language – either Chinese or Spanish.  World Language Immersion students follow the same standards-based curriculum in all content areas that non-immersion students follow in any other Delaware elementary classroom.

The growth of Delaware’s immersion programs is dependent on having high quality teachers in place who speak the immersion language.  Is this you?  Are you interested in learning more and making a big impact in a small state?  These resources will help:

Why Delaware?

Delaware is centrally located on the northeast coast of the United States.  It offers urban, suburban, and rural living and some of the most enjoyable beaches on the east coast.  The state capital, Dover, is within a two- to three-hour drive of some of the most vibrant cities in the east including Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA, and New York City, NY.

In addition to a convenient location, Delaware immersion programs are supported by the Department of Education with ongoing professional learning for teachers across the state.  Come join a growing network of immersion teachers making a big impact in a small state!
